Over the summer

5/25/2016

Over the summer you have four things to focus on: Infinite Arcade, Brain Quest, Little Alchemy and Smash Your Food (the app, don't really smash your food!).

Your goal in Infinite Arcade is to make your own games. Start quickly with a classic game to build on: platformer, adventure, pinball, ball and paddle, or a maze. Create adventures and obstacles: add building blocks like hot lava, disco bricks, crystal geysers, trampoline tiles, oil slicks, wandering stars, and more! Design your own character: create your own ninja or ball. Pick colors or add a photo and special effects. Or choose one of six unique characters or balls. Tell stories: add words and thought bubbles to tell a story. Post signs, clues, and secret messages. Add all kinds of sound effects: laughs, boos, cheers, and farts! Play your own games: run, swim, and fly through your game! Attack evil snails and electromagnetic cats. Collect all the gold coins and glittery skulls! Then, pass to a friend to play.

Your goal in Brain Quest is to go through the journey as you tackle questions to beat the clock and rack up coins and points.  There is math, science, social studies and literacy questions to master!

Your goal in Little Alchemy is to combine elements together to create new elements.  You start with Air, Earth, Fire and Water; combine them together to create new elements that you can then use to combine.  There are 560 possibilities, let's see how many you can get!  (The Little Alchemy app is on your iPads but doesn't seem to be working very well, so you may have to use the website instead.)

Your goal in Smash Your Food is to use this app each day and track the food you eat.  Do you know how much sugar, salt and oil are in the food you eat?
Smash a real burger, crush a real milkshake, explode a real soda, and pound a real pizza. Watch how much sugar, salt and oil are in these foods.

I greatly enjoyed being your technology teacher this year!  Although I will not be your technology teacher next year for grade 4 I will still be at KISJ, and look forward to seeing you!  Have a great summer!

May 13-16 (Buddha's Break)

5/12/2016

During Buddha's Break I encourage you to sit down with a parent or grandparent and add to your family tree that we started in class.  To make a 4 on this project you need to add a leaf (box) for each family member up to Great Grandparents, feel free to add more if you like; you also need to add photos of immediate family members (brother, sister, parents), again feel free to add more if you like.

Once you are done please follow these steps to turn in your family tree: Export; Email as jpeg; to: [email protected]; subject: family tree.  I look forward to see your family trees!

May 9-13

This week you will not have tech class due to MAP testing.  As early finisher work, take some time to explore in the Green Screen app.  Use the full length photo we took in class in front of the green screen.  First crop the image in Photos; then use the screen shots you took in Nearpod to place yourself in the image.  For extra fun to put multiple of you in the same image!
